Tech bubble: Is it 2001 all over again?

There are a lot of high tech layoffs happening these days and with the economy being what it is, there could be a whole lot more in the coming months. I've gone through 5 "corporate restructurings" (read: mass layoffs and closures) in the 10 years I've been in high tech. Although my severance packages increased in value with each passing layoff, in hard times, employees will be stuck with the legal minimum.

Given that we could be on the cusp of another (albeit smaller) bubble, media companies such as CNET are back to tracking layoffs among high tech companies in a not-so-subtle fashion. For example, check out CNET's microsite: "Tech layoffs: The scorecard" for daily updates on layoff announcements. Pop! Pop! Pop!
