Did you know that scientists are trying to engineer a new cow that produces less methane? Based on a recent article on Discovery News.
You may have heard that cows are among the largest polluters on the planet: Per the article, "Ruminants produce a lot of methane; three cows equal one [mid-sized] car" in terms of global warming potential, said John Basarab, an agricultural research scientist for the Alberta government.
Apparently they can create cows with an enzyme to reduce methane production. It's a weird proposition, and it's happening at the University of Alberta. You can find out more at Discovery News.
So what do you think? Would you agree to genetic engineering aimed at saving the environment or the planet?
