Today is Ottawa Cookie Jam (Because Baking is Science Too!)

I love to bake. Cookies, especially. We host hubby's family every year for National Capital Race weekend and the lot of us go through several batches of cookies. They've all gone home with my recipe and tried to replicate it but not a single one of them has been able to. I've even gone to my in-laws' and made them there, and they were totally different. From the mixer to the oven to the local ingredients, it just seems impossible to recreate that recipe elsewhere.

And that's the magic of baking. If you change any of the variables, you end up with a different outcome. The chemistry of the recipe can be thrown off with changes in ingredients, temperature, cooking time, the humidity of the room... It's always a bit of a crapshoot and can be entirely unpredictable.

As Jesse Pinkman would say, "YEAH, SCIENCE!"

Today, there is a fundraiser for In From The Cold at Parkdale United Church featuring... cookies! The Ottawa Cookie Jam is also a baking competition in which local amateur bakers get to showcase their talents for prizes. And dedicated tasters get to try them out, all in the name of charity! Basically, for your ticket price, you get to peruse all of the displays and choose 8 cookies from the assortment of bakers. Bakers get prizes for a variety of categories. And In From The Cold gets all the proceeds. Definitely win-win-win.

Yes, it's sold out but here's how you can get in:

There will be limited taster tickets available at the door. If you show up by 1pm, you might be able to score yourself one. Should be a great time!
