A Look Back at Ottawa Geek Market: Winter Edition (Photos)

In the summer, there is nothing that makes us happier than wandering through the local farmers' markets on Sunday mornings. Even the Dude loves to join us, tasting absolutely everything he can find and helping us pick out what will be on the menu for the week. Mid-Winter, there aren't a lot of chances for these types of outings so, last week, we made do with the Ottawa Geek Market instead!

The Ottawa Geek Market is exactly what it sounds like: a large marketplace for stores, vendors and craftspeople selling all sorts of geekery including games, art, jewelry, comic books, toys, geek paraphernalia and even sweets. Right up our alley.

This one ran on Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2. If you missed it, check out some of the highlights below. If you're interested, better bookmark October 4-5 because that's when the next one is taking place. (Or make your life easier by liking the OGM facebook page or following them on Twitter @OttawaGM.

The Dude and I had a fantastic time. The market layout was great; it took up two halls at Nepean Sportsplex. So much geeky goodness to see, lots of cosplay to check out and we even managed a little shopping. We picked up a couple of Lego minifigs (including an awesome old school Sherlock complete with tweed hat at coat that currently resides on my desk at work) and he scored himself a necklace with the One Ring which he hasn't taken off since. We also managed to catch up with Geeky Godmother herself aka Countessa Lenora from Steampunk Canada (she's so lovely).

While I couldn't capture the whole market (hey! we had stuff to see :) here's a taste of what we saw:

There were tons more, but you get the picture... :)
And what geek market would be complete without a booth by our favourite local adult Lego group: ParLUGment? Check out some of their amazing creations:

You'll notice that last pic features a QR code. The builder of the (amazing) Tie-Fighter has submitted it to Cuusoo, a Lego crowd-voting site. If it gets enough votes, it will be submitted to Lego for consideration as an actual set. If you like it, cast your vote!

Like I said, that's just a fraction of everything we saw. You can check out more on the Ottawa Geek Market site or come in person to the next one :)

The next time they hold an event and advertise that anime's part of it, it would be nice if they, y'know, had actual anime.
