Homemade Lego Advent Calendar 2015: Day 4 - SpongeBob Squarepants

The story behind the Homemade Lego Advent Calendar: We opted not to buy the Dude a Lego Advent Calendar for the past few years. The Dude was quite amenable, countering with: "Ok, then you have to build me something every day until Christmas." Challenge accepted! This is the series of daily posts, cataloguing my builds.

Ok, so here's the thing. Sometimes the simplest-looking builds can be the most complicated. And in the end the final product only kind of looks like the intended design. Case in point: SpongeBob Squarepants. The design for this was incredibly tricky: how do I taper the head? How do I design the nose? Is there anything at all in this insane pile of Lego that looks remotely like a mouth? Is that a TIE? How on earth am I supposed to make a tie?!

So after sifting through the GPOL (Giant Pile of Lego), designing, redesigning and redesigning again, I ended up with this:

It's definitely not what I was hoping for, but in the end, it turned out ok. I'm sure the Dude will have a ton of suggestions for improving it. LOL

Update: The Dude absolutely LOVED this build. He said it's the best one so far this year. I guess it turned out better than I thought! :)

See you tomorrow!
