Recap: Homemade Lego Advent Calendar 2016 Edition

I just wrapped up the 4th edition of the Homemade Lego Advent Calendar and I have to say that I am pretty darned happy to get my evenings back. Actually, this is a really fun ritual which the Dude proposed a few years ago (see below for more info). I've been posting my builds daily on my Twitter account (@spydergrrl) but for those of you who might have missed some or want to take a look at the entire collection, here is the full recap of my 2016 builds. Enjoy!

The story behind the Homemade Lego Advent Calendar

We opted not to buy the Dude a Lego Advent Calendar for the past few years. The Dude was quite amenable, countering with: "Ok, then you have to build me something every day until Christmas." Challenge accepted!

There is no manual, and there are no shortcuts. Each day, I try to think of something to build, head to Google for ideas or instructions if necessary, and then head to the playroom for anywhere from half an hour to sometimes 2 hours, to source all the pieces and build the item(s). Then I leave them out for the Dude to find first thing in the morning.

2016 Edition

This is the 4th year of the Lego Advent Calendar and the Dude, at 13, seems to be completely enamored with me spending 1-2 hours a night foraging through the insanity that is our pile of Lego to build him something interesting that he'll spend all of 2-10 seconds looking at the next morning. So, naturally, I must oblige him. :)
